Youth Football Periodisation with Raymond Verheijen

SCHEDULE: Wednesday, January 11, 2017

Always Play with Your Strongest Team:
Developing a top fit team without injuries in a winning environment.

Football Philosophy: Tactics, Game Insight, Technique and Fitness
8:30 - 10:00 a.m.

Football is played by male and female players, by youth and senior players, by amateur and professional players and by players with different cultural backgrounds. But whatever the differences between these players, their similarities are much more as they all play exactly the same game. By defining the logical structure of football based on the characteristics that all players have to deal with, one develops the objective and universal football philosophy.

10:00 - 10:30 a.m.

Football Conditioning and Exercises
10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Football fitness is the ability to execute a playing style in a higher tempo and for 90 minutes. In this presentation, the football exercises in which players are forced to execute more actions per minute (higher tempo) for longer (90 minutes) will be discussed. These football conditioning exercises are the building blocks of the football periodisation model. This model allows coaches to carefully plan the training week, month and season and to develop a top team without injuries.

12:00  - 1:30 p.m.

Principles of Football Periodisation
1:30 - 3:00 p.m.

Overloading players in training will result in fatigue and muscle damage. This in itself is necessary to develop a training effect as long as the coach is able to avoid over-overload and subsequent over-training and injuries. The principles of periodisation are the guidelines for coaches to safely stretch the football fitness boundaries and to train and play with your strongest team every day.

3:00 - 3:30 p.m.

Applying Football Periodisation in US Youth Football
3:30 - 5:00 p.m.

The principles of football periodisation are the same in each country as everyone is playing exactly the same game but the application of these principles differ as each country has it's own external factors. In this presentation the application of football periodisation in the context of US youth football will be discussed. Suggestions and solutions will be offered to the biggest challenges that US youth coaches face from day to day.
